Breast Reconstruction
• Desire: To regain the natural appearance of the breast after breast removal due to cancer or other diseases.
• Procedure: After a thorough discussion and examination by your physician, a personal treatment plan will be determined.
It may involve more than one operation for reconstruction of the breast mound and nipple. There are many reconstructive options including skin expansion and insertion of an implant or reconstruction using patient's own tissue from the back or abdomen.
Reconstruction may be performed immediately after a mastectomy.
May be an inpatient or outpatient procedure.
Recovery: Varies due to treatment options.
Breast Reduction
• Desire: To alleviate neck, back and shoulder pain due to excessive breast size and reshape breasts to be more natural in appearance.
• Procedure: After a thorough discussion and examination by your physician, a personal treatment plan will be determined.
Involves the removal of excessive tissue, fat and skin of the breasts. Includes reshaping for a more
natural appearance, while limiting surgical scars to the lower part of the breasts.
Generally an outpatient procedure.
Recovery: Typically 2-4 weeks.
